TMA Instructors run away!!!<\/h1>\n

(Field trip to Body Worlds Exhibit in Austin, Texas)<\/h2>\n

On Monday, July 20th, the Texas Massage Academy instructors all ran away to Austin for the day.\u00a0 A couple of months ago, while teaching an A&P class, I was telling my students about the Body Worlds exhibit and found out that it was in Texas.\u00a0 WWWWWWWwwwwwwoohoo!! \u00a0So what do we do? \u00a0Planned a field trip!!!<\/p>\n

Brandon, Melanie, and \u00a0myself ran off to Austin to the Texas Museum of Science and Technology<\/a>\u00a0for a field trip to the Body Worlds & the Cycle of Life<\/a> exhibit. \u00a0Jeremiah couldn’t make it, and missed out on the fun.<\/p>\n

Brandon and I were lucky enough to be able to see the exhibit while we were in massage school which was amazing then, but I think with us being massage instructors it was just so much more interesting and amazing to see the body like this.<\/p>\n

I found it really interesting to see how large and small some of the muscles really are. \u00a0And how they cross over one another.\u00a0 If you think about how many muscles it takes to perform even the simplest movement.\u00a0 Did you know that it takes around 200 muscles just to take one step?\u00a0 Can you imagine trying to tell each muscle to engage or relax in order to take that step?\u00a0 It is just amazing how our bodies work.<\/p>\n

For those that don’t have any knowledge about it, a body that has been donated to science will have all of the bodily fluids replaced with a polymer which ends decomposition and allows for the body to be posed, allowing the view of different parts of the body. \u00a0Check out this image, it is called the Running Man. \u00a0 They have moved the overlying muscles so that you can see the underlying ones as well as how the nerves run.<\/p>\n

For our massage therapy students (or even future students), check out how the nerves of the brachial plexus go under the clavicle before heading down the arm. \u00a0You can see how easy it would be for there to be an impingement on these nerves causing pain and numbness down the arm and into the hand.<\/p>\n

I think everyone needs to go find a Body Worlds Exhibit <\/a>and check it out!!!\u00a0 If you are in Texas you need to hurry, it is only here until September 20, 2015<\/p>\n
